Nature journaling is a great way to deepen your skills of observation, curiosity, and awareness of the world around you. By practicing nature journaling, we can learn how to ask questions that help reveal connections and expand on our own knowledge. This practice has been employed for centuries by naturalists, scientists, and artists.Nature journaling is an accessible practice requiring only basic tools and a sense of curiosity. It can be done in backyards, from patios, urban green spaces or out in the wilds. It employs use of notes, numbers, diagrams, or drawings to document observations and record questions. It can be highly structured or poetic and whimsical.
In this class we will explore several formats for nature journaling, practice approaching subjects with guiding questions, and document our observations using combinations of words, symbols, numbers, and pictures.
This class is indoors and some natural/found objects and photos will be provided. You are also welcome to bring your own objects (plants, rocks, seeds, etc) or photos to work from. Participants may choose to work in wet or dry media. Paints, drawing tools, and paper will be provided, or you may bring your own sketchbook/journal to work in.
