About this Event

This event will be held entirely outdoors at Welsh Mountain Nature Preserve. A short walk may be taken around the trail to survey plant species and explore what is happening in this mountain woodland. There will be instruction and demonstration as well as time for actively working on journals. We will spend time observing and documenting the understory species in this ecosystem. A variety of techniques including drawing, painting, and writing are always part of the discussion.

What to Expect: The group will be walking and working along the universally accessible trail, which is a half-mile, easy, mostly flat loop with a well-maintained surface. There is a port-a-john available on site. This event is recommended for ages 10 and up (participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult).

What to Bring: Bring a journal as well as your choice of implements: watercolors and brushes, writing tools (pen/pencil/marker), or colored pencils; a fine tip black pen is recommended. A phone can be a helpful tool for reference pictures. Dress appropriately for the weather, layers are recommended. Bring a drink and a snack. It is recommended to consider bringing a portable chair or a blanket to sit on and work.
