Join Allie Hayser, shorebird biologist with Manomet’s Georgia Bight Shorebird Conservation Initiative, to learn why Georgia’s 100-mile coast is such an important place for shorebirds and seabirds throughout the year. Our beaches host more than 300,000 shorebirds annually, from long distance migrants that stop to rest and refuel, to nesting birds that rely on our coast to raise their chicks. She will share about ongoing projects and partnerships across Georgia and South Carolina, including Red Knot tracking, horseshoe crab research, and regional efforts like the Atlantic Flyway Shorebird Initiative and WHSRN. You will also learn what you can do to be a good host and neighbor to beach nesting and migrating birds, and how to get involved through volunteer opportunities like the Georgia Coastal Bird Ambassadors.
Doors open at 6:30 pm. Lecture begins at 7 pm, with Q&A to follow. This lecture is free but we ask that you please register in advance so we can put out a chair for you!
Lecture will also be streamed via the OHM Facebook page.
