Natural Sequence Farming Field Day with Adrian Drew from Tarwyn Park Training
This workshop is aimed at landcarers, landowners and educators eager to learn more about these methods and share them with their communities.
Natural sequence farming (NSF) is a land management approach developed by Peter Andrews that works with natural processes to restore the water cycle and enhance landscape function. It focuses on slowing down water movement, allowing it to infiltrate the soil, and promoting vegetation growth to improve soil health, water quality, and biodiversity.
The day will include a mix of presentation and interactive content, with practical demonstrations at Trillion Trees' Hazelmere site. Trillion Trees would like participants to use the workshop as an opportunity to build relationships to further cooperation and collaboration on innovative approaches to land management.
This practical workshop will be facilitated by experienced NSF practitioner, Adrian Drew of Tarwyn Park Training in line with their vision to educate landholders on how the landscape once functioned; to observe the patterns and processes that enabled our landscape to be built by plants managing the sun's energy and water by applying the most superior scientific model.
The mission of Tarwyn Park Training is to lead the world in understanding how landscapes function whilst empowering people to restore them to be more resilient, productive and healthy.
Tarwyn Park Training's mission was built on the seminal works of Peter Andrews (OAM). Peter has spent his life reading landscapes to develop a deep understanding of the naturally occurring processes which kept the land hydrated and green prior to human habitation, giving rise to the megafauna and managing climatic extremes over the largest area for the longest period of time. Through practical application of his theories on degraded farmland, Andrews achieved astounding results by reproducing the naturally occurring landscape functions by introducing structures to manage the movement of fertility over the landscape with water to foster plant growth and biodiversity and create aggrading landscapes in agricultural settings whilst still building topsoil.
Morning tea and lunch will be provided. Participants will gather from 9am for a 9.30 start, finishing at 3.30pm.
Participants will need appropriate clothing and footwear for outdoor demonstrations.
