Location: Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts & Agriculture
In this two-day, hands-on class, students learn to create pigments and paints from dye plants grown right here on The Ranch. On the first day, participants extract pigments from natural dye materials; on the second day, they use those pigments to make paints. Along the way, students gain an understanding of the basic chemistry, handling, challenges, and joys of natural dye extraction. Once the paints are prepared, the class shares results and creates color samples on fabric and paper. Students leave with their samples, along with recipes for making their own plant-based paints.
All materials will be provided.
No natural dye experience required.
For ages 16 and older. Those under age 16 may attend accompanied by an adult.
About the Instructor:
Amanda Lee is a multidisciplinary artist specializing in printmaking, painting, book arts, and photography. She is Assistant Professor of Painting and Printmaking at University of Washington, Seattle. Lee earned an MFA at Indiana University, Bloomington, and was the recipient of the inaugural Virginia A. Myers Visiting Artist / Visiting Assistant Professorship in Printmaking at the University of Iowa. She has presented work internationally in Scotland, Hong Kong, and has had several solo exhibitions at SG Gallery in Venice, Italy.

- 0% refund for cancellations less than 1 week before the workshop
- 50% refund for cancellations 7-14 days prior
- Full refunds will be provided if PMRCAA cancels the event due to inclement weather or if an instructor is unavailable.
