About this Event

We’re thrilled to invite you to a day-long field trip celebrating the launch of our episode from the web series —all about the local ecology of the Southern California native plants. We’ll be partnering with the (TPF) for an unforgettable experience. We'll be taking a bus up to their headquarters!

🚍 What’s the Plan?

We’ll kick things off with a bus pick-up from Los Angeles Union Station East and take a scenic ride out to the stunning headquarters of Theodore Payne, located in Sun Valley, California. On this adventure, you’ll dive deep into local ecology, guided by experts who are as passionate about native plants as you are.


🌿 What Can You Expect?


  • Guided Tours: Explore a unique region of the Southern Californian environment with Theodore Payne where we will take a guided hike to learn about the importance of native plants.


  • Snacks & Drinks: We’ll keep you fueled with delicious snacks and drinks throughout the day, plus a light lunch. Feel free to bring your own lunch (if you have specific dietary restrictions/ or needs) and a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated!


  • New Friends: This is the perfect opportunity to connect with fellow nature enthusiasts and conservation experts. Make meaningful connections as you learn about the urgent need to protect California’s ecosystem.


A Sneak Peek at the Agenda:


  • 8:30 AM: Bus Pick-Up at Los Angeles Union Station
  • 9:00 AM: Depart for Theodore Payne
  • 10:00 AM: Arrive at TPF / Overview
  • 10:15 - 12 PM: Hike Begins
  • 1:00-3:00 PM: Garden Workshop + Interactive Lectures Pollinators
  • 3:00-4:00 PM: Free time to wander gardens, shop, walk Wilflower Hill
  • 4:15-5:00 PM: Head back to LA Union Station East

Theodore Payne Foundation inspires and educates Southern Californians about the beauty and ecological benefits of California native plant landscapes.


Isaias Hernandez,

Isaias Hernandez is an environmentalist, educator, and writer devoted to improving environmental literacy through content creation, storytelling, and public engagements. Isaias is more commonly known by his moniker, Queer Brown Vegan: the independent media platform he started to bring intersectional environmental education to all. His journey to deconstruct complex issues, while centering diversity and authenticity, has resonated with a worldwide audience.


He has produced and written his own climate-independent web series, , which exists to bring environmental education to everyone by working with scientists, researchers, and community leaders. He is currently working on his debut book, Dear Environmentalist: Why Ecological Wealth Is Our Only Way Forward, set for publication in April 2027 with Hachette Book Group under the Timber Press imprint.


Isaias has been featured in several noteworthy publications, including the digital cover of VOGUE alongside Billie Eilish and seven other environmental activists, New York Times, The Guardian, and Business Insider. Isaias serves on the advisory board for Yale Climate Connections. As a public speaker, he’s presented for the New York Times, UC Berkeley, Yale, Harvard University, and more.
