The National Three Peaks Challenge is an attempt to climb the 3 highest peaks in the UK: Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon) consecutively, in that order. Most aim to do this in under 24-hours.
We will travel to Fort William, on Saturday 17th August, starting the challenge by climbing Ben Nevis that evening (5pm). This will give us the opportunity to witness a sunset (weather permitting) on the highest mountain in the UK! On descending we'll quickly get back into the buses and head to the Lake District overnight. On arrival on Sunday morning we will climb Scafell Pike at sunrise before heading on to Snowdonia (Eryri) to finish on Snowdon (Yr Wydffa) with a Sunday afternoon walk, and finally celebrating with a couple of drinks in Llanberis!! Transport will then take us back to Manchester/ East Lancashire for approx. 10pm.
This is a tough event for which you will need to have a good level of fitness and be prepared to do without sleep! As our aim is to complete the event in 24 hours we will need to complete Ben Nevis in 5½ hours, Scafell Pike in 4½ hours and Snowdon in 4 hours. The standard for measuring your official total time on the event is mountain time plus a fixed 10 hour drive time.
As with all Abigail's Trails hikes, this challenge will be a small-group event, led by qualified mountain leaders who are empathetic and supportive. We will also have support drivers with us all of the way. We’ll do everything we can to get you through the challenge as quickly as possible.
The event fee (£400) includes: professional event organisation; our services (guiding on all 3 peaks by experienced mountain leaders with Outdoor First Aid qualifications / kit); public liability insurance; transport from Manchester or East Lancashire onwards to the start of the event, between each peak, and back to Manchester (East Lancs.) after; breakfast of pastries to start the Scafell Pike leg; and hot drinks after descent of Ben Nevis.
You will need to: arrange transport to the pick-up location in Manchester or East Lancashire; evening meals, lunches and beverages; personal insurance (for cancellation, accident, health, emergency evacuation and loss, theft of or damage to baggage and personal effects); personal equipment (e.g. walking boots, rucksack, waterproof jacket and trousers, torch, hat and gloves).
On booking you will receive full itinerary, kit list, training plan and much more communication about the event. We also offer a Challenge Trail Training course for those who want help getting fit for the event, and plenty advice about kit! If you are wanting to fundraise for a charity while taking part in this challenge, we can also help you do that.
We ask for a non-refundable £80 deposit on booking. The full amount will be invoiced 8 weeks before the event and must be paid in full 6 weeks before we leave for Glen Nevis.
