About this Event
40 Years of Homosexual Law Reform – Community Celebration at Parliament
Join us in the historic Banquet Hall at Parliament as we come together to celebrate 40 years since the passing of the Homosexual Law Reform Act — a landmark moment that helped transform Aotearoa New Zealand into a more inclusive and just society.
This special evening will honour the courage, determination, and advocacy of those who fought for equality, while celebrating the vibrant and diverse rainbow communities who continue that legacy today.
The programme will feature speeches from past and present activists, sharing reflections on the movement, the challenges faced, and the progress achieved over four decades. Guests will also enjoy performances from talented members of the community, bringing music, storytelling, and creative expression to the celebration.
More than a commemoration, this event is also an opportunity to connect across generations of the rainbow community and allies. Join activists, community leaders, supporters, and friends for an evening of reflection, celebration, and whakawhanaungatanga in one of the country’s most significant civic spaces.
Together, we honour the past, celebrate the present, and look toward a future where equality and inclusion continue to grow.
