is excited to announce the annual (CanFilmDay), which has taken root as our largest annual celebration of Canadian culture. CanFilmDay is about giving Canadians an opportunity to gather together (in person or virtually) and celebrate the incredible achievements of the nation’s filmmakers. Every year, hundreds of screenings take place on every conceivable platform and at every conceivable venue. This year, CanFilmDay will take place on Wed. April 15th, 2026, when Canadians everywhere will be watching a great Canadian film.

To celebrate National Canadian Film Day in BC, the (VAFF) and VAFF Industry Filmmaker Series are presenting the screening of " Universal Language (آواز بوقلمون) - Comedy, Drama" by Canadian filmmaker, Matthew Rankin

Event Schedule: Check in: 6:00 pm, Opening Remarks and Screening: 6:30 pm

Synopsis: Set in an alternate universe where Canada’s official languages are French and Persian, this charming and surreal fable follows a triptych of seemingly unrelated stories of people navigating through a bleak Winnipeg winter. Behind layers of eclectic bizarreness lives a poignant message about the depth and importance of human connection and understanding. It’s also just genuinely hilarious.
