About this Event
The Alamo Area Branch of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is hosting it annual spring forum and awards ceremony for this year's winners. Attendance and lunch is free (yes, free!). CEU certificates are available (up to six total, of which three are ethics), $10 for NASW members or $20 for nonmembers.
The program focuses on grassroots organizing, getting out the vote, business and social work, and the use of social media. We will wrap up and prepare to start the weekend with an hour of self-care instruction.
This year's award winners are:

Ms. Naomi Brown -- Social Worker of the Year
Ms. Emily Perez -- Social Work Student (MSW) of the Year
Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer -- Public Elected Official of the Year
Sr. Pearl Caeser -- Public Citizen of the Year
Mr. Chris Tomlinson -- Media Representative of the Year

9:00-12:00: Grassroots Organizing (Ethics credit)
- A Life Dedicated to Community Organizing -- Sister Pearl Ceasar, Congregation of Divine Providence will address organizing in American Southwest with Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF), Project Quest, and the creation of the City of San Antonio’s Ready-to-Work Program.
- Panel on Grassroots Organizing -- Josephine Lopez Paul, COPS/Metro Organizer, Naomi Brown, LCSW, Clinician, Beverley McClure, COPS/Metro’s Gun Safety Committee Chair, and Sister Pearl Ceasar
12:00-1:30: Award Ceremony / Lunch / and Lunch Presentation, Social Workers as Vote-Getters by Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer
1:30-3:30: Social Workers Know Their Business
- Why Knowing Business is Crucial to Social Work -- Chris Tomlinson, Columnist, SA Express-News and Houston Chronicle will address international reporting and the developing world, energy, economics, climate change, pandemics, and policies
- Panel on Using the Media for Social Work -- Arthur Dawes, Chair, Texas Pax Christi; Hilda Santiago, Southwest Texas Synod, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America; and Chris Tomlinson.
3:30-4:30: Self-help and self-healing -- TBA
Parking is available in the center of campus, a short walk from the Nursing & Allied Health Complex (Rm 218) where the event will be held, see map below.
