We’re excited to invite you to Urban Cowboy for the celebration and release show of the Nashville Women in Jazz debut album “Redefining the Standards” on Thursday, June 25 from 7 - 10pm!Nashville Women in Jazz was founded with the mission to create more opportunities, visibility, and support for women and gender expansive folks in a genre and industry where representation has historically been limited.
The album is composed of original songs and arrangements of traditional jazz standards. It reimagines both the music itself and the standard of who is represented and recognized in jazz. It is dedicated to the trailblazing women who came before us: the producers, instrumentalists, composers, arrangers, educators, and artists whose contributions have too often gone unseen, even while their influence shaped the music we love. This album exists because of their perseverance which inspired this project to be dream-able and doable.
It took a lot of people to make this album happen. Thank you to everyone who has supported Nashville Women in Jazz and helped us keep building momentum over the years. We’re especially grateful to Metro Arts for repeatedly investing in our vision and supporting the work we’re doing to create a more inclusive and celebrated jazz community in Nashville.Join us to celebrate the culmination and honor the legacy of women in jazz while uplifting the artists carrying the music forward today.
