About this Event
This luminous program celebrates the richness of French musical imagination, from the sensual to the sublime. Debussy’s Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune (Afternoon of a Faun) opens a dreamworld of shimmering strings and drifting woodwinds, capturing the mythical faun’s languid reverie and transporting listeners into the heart of Impressionism. Ravel’s Ma mère l’Oye (Mother Goose Suite) follows with delicately colored evocations of fairy tales and childhood wonder, where enchanted gardens, slumbering princesses, and magical dances sparkle with charm and grace. The afternoon culminates in Fauré’s Requiem, a masterpiece of radiant serenity. Unlike darker settings of the Mass for the Dead, Fauré’s music offers consolation, hope, and light, with ethereal chorus and soloists unfolding a vision of eternal peace. Joining the orchestra for this crowning performance are the esteemed Fort Myers Symphonic Mastersingers, an acclaimed 80-voice chorus that has brought masterworks and musical excellence to the region since 2001. Together, these works create a concert of enchantment, solace, and timeless beauty.
