The gorgeous new restoration of Michael Almereyda's work of ethereally cool 90s arthouse vampire cinema — produced by David Lynch!
About this Event

Screens Friday, 2/6 at 7:00pm and Sunday, 2/8 at 6:00pm.

7th House is proud to present the new 4k restoration of Michael Almereyda’s acclaimed cult film NADJA (1994) – a singularly brilliant and ethereally nocturnal vampire tale shot through with downtown underground cool and post-punk melancholy.

Executive produced and championed by David Lynch, (who makes a memorable cameo as a hypnotized morgue attendant) and soundtracked by the likes of Portishead and My Bloody Valentine, Almereyda’s (TESLA, EXPERIMENTER, HAMLET) somnambulant bloodsucker elegy merges elements from DRACULA’S DAUGHTER (1936) with André Breton’s surrealist novel NADJA (1928), fusing shimmering black-and-white 35mm with hallucinatory video footage shot with a Fisher-Price Pixelvision camcorder. Its story centers on New York-based vampire Nadja (Elina Löwensohn) as she draws close to her twin brother Edgar (Jared Harris) following their father’s death at the hands of Dr. Van Helsing (Peter Fonda). Edgar’s private nurse (Suzy Amis), Van Helsing’s nephew Jim (Martin Donovan), and Jim's wife (Galaxy Craze) are entangled in the story as the vampire killer pursues “the fiend” from Manhattan to Transylvania.

Digitally restored by Arbelos and Grasshopper Film from the only extant element, the 35mm answer print — audiences can finally experience Almereyda’s original, extended Director’s Cut, as it first premiered at the 1994 Toronto International Film Festival, on the big screen and more hauntingly striking than ever.

Dir. Michael Almereyda, 1994, 93 mins, USA, English, Rated R, Digital.

Special thanks to David Marriott and Ei Toshinari of Arbelos Films and Kazu Watanabe of Grasshopper Film.
