On May 7th, the Elkhart community will experience a powerful evening with civil rights veteran Dr. David Dennis — a man who didn’t just witness history… he helped shape it. And now… he’s coming to Elkhart.Doors Open at 5:00pm
WHO IS DAVE DENNIS, SR?
Dr. David Dennis is one of the Civil Rights Movement’s most powerful—and often unsung—voices. A distinguished activist and organizer, he played a pivotal role on the front lines of the struggle for justice and equality, working in close alignment with the mission of the NAACP during the height of the Movement.
He was an early leader in both the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), helping to organize voter registration drives, Freedom Rides, and grassroots campaigns across the South. Working alongside leaders such as Medgar Evers, Dr. Dennis offers a rare, firsthand perspective on one of the most defining periods in American history.
He is also a published author and is featured in the acclaimed documentary Eyes on the Prize, which chronicles pivotal moments of the Civil Rights Movement. His story is not just history—it is a living testament to courage, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of justice.
