What is Shop Detroit: Keep It in the City?
Shop Detroit is a citywide push from the Detroit Branch NAACP and partners to keep our dollars circulating in Detroit neighborhoods during the week after Black Friday. Instead of sending money to big-box stores, we’re encouraging residents to support the small neighborhood businesses they already know and love, plus discover new ones in all seven city districts.
How it works
During Shop Detroit week, you visit participating neighborhood retailers, restaurants, salons, barbers, and service providers across the city. On Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 12–4 p.m., Motor City Java House will serve as our community hub. Stop by to check in, enter prize drawings, connect with health and business resource partners, and celebrate the people who keep our neighborhoods alive.
Health & benefits corner
Many small business owners and solo entrepreneurs don’t have the time or access to explore health coverage, benefits, or wellness resources. A dedicated health and benefits corner at Motor City Java House will bring trusted partners directly to them with simple, easy-to-understand information they can act on.
Business resource corner
In addition to shoppers, this event is built for business owners. Partners like Detroit Means Business and other resource organizations will be on site to share information on training, grants, and microloan opportunities so our neighborhood businesses can grow, not just survive.
Who should register?
- Community participants: Detroit residents and supporters who want to shop local and enter prize drawings.
- Small businesses: Neighborhood retailers, restaurants, and service providers who want to be listed as a participating Shop Detroit business and connect with customers and resource partners.
