About this Event
The Mysteries to Die For Book Club is led by Elsie Souza, reading M**der, mayhem, and marvelous prose. From Nordic noir to British whodunits, each book reveals how crime and storytelling cross borders, and what our favorite detectives can teach us about culture, justice, and the human heart. July's selection takes us to a remote, snowbound town in northern Iceland—where isolation is total, and secrets have nowhere to hide.
This month, we're reading Snowblind by Ragnar Jónasson—a chilling, claustrophobic thriller and the first in the Dark Iceland series. When a young woman is found bleeding in the snow and a renowned writer dies under suspicious circumstances, rookie policeman Ari Thór Arason finds himself confronting his first real investigation in a place where everyone knows everyone—and no one is telling the whole truth. As a blizzard seals off the town, paranoia mounts, and Ari Thór must untangle a web of long-buried secrets before the darkness closes in completely.
We will meet in person at our store location at The Mark, 117 S. Pineapple Ave. The book club is $12, which includes a copy of Snowblind to be picked up at Bookstore1 any time before our meeting. Themed refreshments will be served!
