Talk by Rachel. Rachel studied at Glasgow School of Art gaining a first class BA (Hons) in Embroidered and Woven Textiles in 1994. She went on to become a freelance textile designer and then in 1999 returned to teach at Glasgow School of Art as the weaving and embroidery technician. In 2007 Rachel left and became a full time artist, exhibiting widely throughout the UK and working to commission. She has exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh and has twice been a finalist in the Scottish Portrait Awards.
Her work is very varied from textiles; portraiture; seascapes; to working more abstract in mixed media. Combining her love of textiles and embroidery with fine art is her great passion. She gets a real buzz from constantly trying out new ideas and techniques as it keeps her fresh and more creative. Rachel is currently a part-time art teacher and runs online courses in mixed media, embroidery and collage.
