My Tanglin Halt Heritage Tour [English] (22 Mar 2026)

Queenstown is Singapore’s first satellite town named after Queen Elizabeth II to mark her coronation in 1953. The original planning area was approximately 1150 acres and bounded by Ridout Road, Tanglin Road, Alexandra Road and the Malayan Railway. Tanglin Halt was one of the five planned neighbourhoods.

Whenever ‘Tanglin Halt’ is mentioned, uniform rows of chap lau chu (Hokkien: 十楼屋; Ten-storey flats) or 10-storey housing blocks immediately spring to mind. Named after a former Malayan Railway station located at the junction of Tanglin Halt Road and Tanglin Halt Close, the estate is home to many iconic landmarks including the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Black and White Bungalows and three-storey apartments designed by the SIT.

My Tanglin Halt Heritage Tour also brings participants on a pilgrimage to many pioneering institutions which shape our society including Singapore's first HDB flats, first branch library, first polyclinic, first neighbourhood sports complex, first tertiary school for arts and design. Look far we have come!

Who should come?

• Everyone is welcome to participate in this tour.

Duration & Meeting Place

• Approximate Duration: 3 hours
• Language: English
• Meeting Point: Queenstown MRT Station (on overhead bridge next to Mr Bean shop, #02-06, on the concourse level, opposite the gantry for Exits A and B) - Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of the tour at 8.30am.
• Ending Point: Tanglin Halt Neighbourhood Centre (a stone's throw from Commonwealth MRT Station)
• The tour will proceed rain or shine

What to wear or bring?

• Wear comfortable clothes and suitable shoes.
• Bring along hand sanitiser, insect repellent, EZ-Link card, a bottle of water and an umbrella.
• If you have earphones with a standard 3.5mm audio jack, please bring them along (for radio guides during the tour).
• Asthmatic individuals are encouraged to bring their inhaler.

Other important information

• Please do not sign up for the tour if you are unsure of your schedule. Our volunteers have committed their time to this tour - Your absence is discouraging our volunteers from organising any physical tours.
• You must cancel this ticket if you were unwell and could not turn up.
• Participants are banned permanently if they ave signed up for the tour but did not turn up
• Please arrive 15 minutes before the tour for registration.
