About this Event
“Tell me the facts and I’ll learn. Tell me the truth and I’ll believe. But tell me a story and it will live in my heart forever”. (An old Native American proverb.)
Join Tevita Lauhingoa as he talks about his personal and intimate journey navigating the darkness of mental unwellness and how Pūrākau, storytelling, and other taonga from Te Ao Māori was a light that brought balance and led to his mental wellness.
Tevita is from Tauranga Moana and Tongan heritage and lives with his family in Tauranga. He has a wealth of experience and knowledge having worked in the social work sector for over 15 years. His roles have included social work in schools, mental health and addiction clinician and youth social worker. He is also involved in a number of community-led kaupapa.
The presentation will include a Q&A section at the end and a chance to share some kōrero and kai.
Please note due to the sensitive nature of the topic, it is recommended for a mature audience.
