August's History Society meeting is on Wednesday 12th August 2026. It will include a talk from well-known star of the Keighley stage, Barbara Boothroyd. Barbara has had lead roles with Keighley Amateurs in their musicals such as 'Irene' and Oklahoma!' and their pantomimes such as 'Aladdin' and 'Goody Two Shoes', as well as many roles with Keighley Playhouse. She will talk about how she first became interested in the stage and her introduction to Keighley Amateurs, and will bring along some of her panto costumes (“Oh no she won’t!” “Oh yes she will!”).As a warm up to the talk, you can catch Barbara in her latest role, in 'Murder at Checkmate Manor', at the Keighley Playhouse from 22nd-27th June 2026.
The History Society meeting will take place upstairs in the Civic Centre, on North Street. Doors open at 7.15pm and the meeting will start just before 7.30pm. Entry is free to History Society members, or £3.50 for anyone else who wants to just come along (booking is not required). Members can also choose to join the meeting via Zoom if they wish.
You can take out membership of the History Society at any of our meetings in the Civic Centre. Membership for the rest of 2026 costs £15 (or £20 for two people at the same address). Please pay in cash on the night. As well as free entry to our monthly meetings, membership also gets you invited to members-only events and you will receive the quarterly newsletter via email.
