About this Event
Join us for an exciting event to welcome new voice Honor Levy to the shop to discuss her debut story collection, My First Book, with Rachel Connolly.
From one of America's freshest talents comes a story collection that goes deep into the mind of Gen Z. Dripping in irony and nostalgia for a pre-internet age, populated by cute creatures crying anime tears, kids on ritalin and ketamine, Sonic the Hedgehog, Jenny Holzer, dubstep Simon and Garfunkel and a glossary of the internet for the rest of us - this is an unmissable collection that will sting, shock and assault your nervous system. From cancel culture to red-pilling, Doomers to #metoo, Levy's radical honesty provokes and teases, depicting an increasingly darker side to these Exceedinly Online times.
We're on the rooftop with the boys. The boys are calling girls dogs, like, 'She's a dog, a total dog.' They don't mean bitches. They just mean dogs. If they wanted to tell us that a girl was a bitch they would say, 'She's a bitch, a total bitch.' When boys say something, they mean it. That's why we like them. We're not dogs. That's why they like us. That's why we're on the rooftop. (from Good Boys)
'Fractal stories from the eschatological present, told in a strange, new, manic, and flarfy voice that I trust and endorse' - Tao Lin
'Levy negotiates the great wave of information overload with a deceptively effortless grace... So funny and sharp, the kind of characters you either want to scream at or buy a drink... Beautifully, intoxicatingly written, and somehow so knowing that it comes full circle to a hard-won wisdom and compassion. Exhilarating, and as significant a definition of a cultural era and its disaffected main players as Generation X was in its time' - Luke Kennard
Don't forget to include a copy of My First Book with your ticket. There will be a book signing following the discussion. Join us from 18:00 for a welcome drink!
