About this Event
MY FATHER’S COAT is Michael Charton’s acclaimed production offering fresh context and insight into the complexities of South Africa’s past.
Michael’s idea was to condense some of the key dynamics of South African history into a seamless human story: A monumental challenge, which took two years to develop, but which has given rise to a unique product.
A story told through the eyes of carefully selected and interwoven protagonists spanning 200 turbulent years: Mzilikazi, Kruger, Rhodes, Smuts, Gandhi and Mandela, amongst others. Michael tuggs on our timeless human flaws; bias; and genius, allowing audiences to discover empathy on unlikely ends of the political spectrum.
Michael was so passionate about this project, that he exchanged his life as a chartered accountant to pursue it. This passion shines through in every delivery.
MY FATHER’S COAT provides an opportunity to reflect on South Africa’s past and the many lessons it holds for a world which is being tugged at its seams.
