About this Event
The Flamenco Festival is committed to celebrating and preserving flamenco as a vibrant and evolving art form, one that transcends music and dance to express a deeply rooted cultural identity. This year’s program highlights the profound influence of New York City on flamenco’s global popularity, showcasing the dynamic intersection of Spanish and NYC cultural histories.
As part of the 2026 Flamenco Festival New York, the Manhattan Wind Ensemble will present a groundbreaking performance that reimagines flamenco through the lens of the wind ensemble. The program offers a unique multi-genre experience, blending classical wind ensemble music with flamenco rhythms and visual dance aesthetics. This concert includes gorgeous pieces from Frederico Chueca, Ernesto Lecuona, Enrique Granados, Carlos Surinach and Julie Giroux, as well as Manuel de Falla in honor of the 150th anniversary of his birth.
About Manhattan Wind Ensemble
The Manhattan Wind Ensemble (MWE) is a vibrant community of more than 90 professional and semi-professional woodwind, brass, and percussion musicians from across the New York City area. Founded in 2007 as a musical home for dedicated wind players, MWE has grown from a 25-member chamber group into a dynamic, multigenerational ensemble. Incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, MWE is entirely volunteer-run and supported by member dues, corporate sponsorship, and public grants.
For nearly twenty years, MWE’s mission has been to elevate wind band literature through high-caliber performances while inspiring audiences of all ages through the unifying power of music. The ensemble has commissioned new works, presented world premieres, collaborated with international guest conductors, and recently performed at Boston Symphony Hall. Now offering year-round concerts—including a free summer series in NYC parks—MWE continues to champion excellence, inclusivity, and community music-making.
