PAY AS YOU FEELCome and join us as we take a bite-size chunk of Musicport festival and a significant slice of global culture on the road! In the lead up the festival itself, The Tashi Lhunpo Monks will be captivating audiences in a string of rural ‘pay as you feel’ events in select villages around Whitby.
The monks of Tashi Lhunpo present ‘From the Roof of the World’ featuring the same traditional Cham Dance and monastic music which captivated the pioneering mountaineers a century ago. A group of Tibetan monks from their exiled monastery in India are now able to share their unique culture with the outside world and present a majestic programme of masked dances and sacred chant with accompanying exhibitions of Tibetan Tantric sand mandalas and interactive workshops.
The Tashi Lhunpo Monastery is one of the most important monasteries in Central Tibet besides being the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama. Through the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery UK Trust’s educational and cultural exchanges, including chanting and cham performances, the monks share our unique Tibetan culture and their special monastic tradition with people in Europe and other parts of the world. The Trust also supports the Monastery’s work in India. Any assistance extended to the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery will be much appreciated.
