Wäre es nicht toll, musikalische Ebenen gut voneinander unterscheiden zu können? Und das tänzersiche Potential jeder einzelnen Ebene zu erkennen, zu filtern und entsprechend zu nutzen?
In diesem Workshop möchte Korey euch dabei helfen, die vielschichtige Musik des Tangos besser kennenzulernen. Korey, selbst Musiker und Komponist, benutzt dazu technische Möglichkeiten, die musikalischen Ebenen zu unterscheiden und hörbarer zu machen. Außerdem wird er mit Hilfe von Videos bekannte Tänzer*innen auf ihre musikalischen Entscheidungen hin analysieren. Wouldn’t it be cool if we had musical “x-ray vision?” The power to see/hear the inner workings of the music, to separate distinct layers or roles and look at the danceable potentials of each?
We often hear that tango is a complex or layered music. In this lecture we’ll see and hear concretely what that means and how one can enrich the musical conversation in the dance pair through awareness of these layers. Korey has re-recorded some favorite golden era tangos of Di Sarli and Fresedo allowing us to see and hear inside the structure of the music and isolate individual instruments and musical roles. With the help of these resources we’ll analyze dance performances from a wide range of model interpreters to see how one can utilize detail in the music to create a beautiful shared dance experience!

As dancers we’ll look at 3 musical tools we can use to express that aspect of the music we are inspired by:
1)Timing 2) Quality of motion 3) Emotional effect
We’ll use these resources to collaborate in the dance pair in interpreting music with multiple simultaneous layers. With the help of specially prepared recordings, scores. and video examples we’ll recognize diverse layers and roles in the music and explore how to interpret them.
