About this Event
, a book written by Kathy Stinson and illustrated by Dusan Petricic, is based off of world-renowned violinist Joshua Bell’s experience at the Stulberg International String Competition.
Even as a young child, Joshua Bell is passionate about playing the violin. When he begs to be allowed to enter a competition meant for much more experienced musicians, his parents and teacher reluctantly allow it.
On the big day, Joshua nervously goes up onstage and starts to play, but what comes out of his violin is all wrong. Joshua is devastated. The competition is over for him – or is it?
Based on real events, this lyrical story about one gifted musician’s quest for a second chance delivers a heartening example of never giving up.
Performed by the Burdick-Thorne String Quartet, artists in residence with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra.
