American Patchwork Quarteta co-presentation between Music Worcester & The Prior Performing Arts Center of the College of the Holy Cross
American Patchwork Quartet is a multicultural folk ensemble that brings stories of resilience and unity to audiences. With their most recent album Grammy nominated for “Best Folk Album,” the group blends elements of jazz, Hindustani classical music, and Americana together. Their mission to reclaim the immigrant soul of American Roots Music inspires their sound, bringing together timeless sound from across the globe. In this program, you’ll be introduced to new sounds and techniques as much as you’re wowed by each musician’s artistry.
The instrumentation – vocals (Falu Shah), guitar (Clay Ross), bass (Yasushi Nakamura), drums (Clarence Penn) – may be familiar to listeners as standard for a 4-part group, but their sound is anything but ordinary. Each member brings a musical tapestry of their own to the group, allowing for cross-continental unity to blend seamlessly. What began as an exploration of their immigrant histories through music became a lasting collaboration. Listen to some of their works here.
