This is a non-ticketed performance – no tickets are necessary, no reservations can be made.
Come on the journey with the Houston Grand Opera as audiences explore the artform of opera and learn how singers use voice and music to tell stories! Experience a variety of songs, emotions, and language through this 60-minute, high-energy production.

Music-Stories-OPERA! is a concertized version of HGO’s Meet an Opera Singer and Opera Up Close programming, featuring three of HGO’s talented singers- the perfect vehicle for introducing students, families- EVERYONE!- to opera!

The lively hour-long program invites students to step into the world of opera—not just as spectators, but as active participants. Through a mix of live performance, storytelling, and interactive games, they’ll discover how singers use music and voice to express emotion and bring characters to life.

Audiences will enjoy selections from operas including Rossini’s The Barber of Seville and the Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, guess the languages of famous arias, and even help create a brand-new “mini-opera” on the spot. Designed to spark curiosity and creativity, the program aims to give young audiences a hands-on connection to the art form.
Who: Soprano Jazmine Olwalia, mezzo-soprano Danielle Romano, baritone Blas Canedo-González, and music director/pianist Catherine Schaefer take the Miller stage for Music-Stories-OPERA!, directed by Eboni Bell Darcy.
The mission of Houston Grand Opera is to enrich our diverse community through the art of opera by creating, curating, exploring, and producing outstanding experiences centered around the human voice.
All performances at Miller Outdoor Theatre are FREE!
