Violinist Gyorgy Valtchev and pianist Lora Tchekoratova have appeared in recital at New York’s Weill Recital Hall and the 92nd Street Y, the Dame Myra Hess series in Chicago and at many international chamber music festivals. They will perform the Violin Sonata No. 4 by Franz Schubert, Richard Strauss's rarely-heard Violin Sonata in E-flat major, Op. 18, and the premiere of Sirens: a concerto for violin and piano by Dalit Warshaw. Over the course of three movements, the concerto explores different connotations of the word "Siren." The first movement ('Clara's Violin') depicts the musical story of the theremin virtuoso, Clara Rockmore; the second movement ('Ulysses') enacts Kafka's parable The Silence of the Siren's based on Homer's tale from the Odyssey; the third movement ('Flugal Horn') is a romping, scherzando fugue that degenerates into the third type of siren: an alarm.
