About this Event
Join us for an extraordinary spring concert as the All Saints' Choir and Orchestra perform two of the choral repertoire's most deeply moving and beloved works.
The program opens with Ralph Vaughan Williams' An Oxford Elegy — an unusual and quietly nostalgic work for narrator, chorus, and chamber orchestra, drawn from two poems by Matthew Arnold, "The Scholar Gypsy" and "Thyrsis." Reflective and achingly beautiful, it sets the stage for the evening's centerpiece.
Maurice Duruflé's Requiem, Op. 9, completed in 1947 and rooted in the timeless beauty of Gregorian chant, is widely regarded as one of the great masterworks of the twentieth century. In the composer's own words, the Requiem "reflects the agony of man faced with the mystery of his ultimate end — dramatic, filled with resignation, hope, or terror." At once intimate and sweeping, it is a work that speaks directly to the human soul.
Whether you are a devoted choral music enthusiast or simply seeking a profound and beautiful evening, this concert promises to move, inspire, and linger long after the final note.
All are welcome to join us for a wonderful evening of music followed by a reception!
