The beautiful shire counties of England have inspired artists for generations. Join us for a musical journey through some highlights.

You'll find yourself tapping your feet to Ernest Tomlinson's English Folk Dances - tunes you know but can't place, one of which recently featured in the dance scene in the BBC's The Other Bennet Daughter, and you'll whistle Dick's Maggot all the way home.

Elgar's Organ Sonata is familiar too and we're going to give it that little extra pazazz by playing it with the wind band - the nearest thing to an organ and breathing life into that fine romantic piece first performed in the Three Choirs Festival in Worcester.

John Barrett (Euphonium) met Richard Hubbert when they were members of the Royal Engineers Band many years ago. Now Richard has written this descriptive solo piece for Euphonium and band called The Journey, and as ever with Richard's music, it's a great easy listen.

There's another first performance of a short piece by Canterbury composer Dr Matthew Brown, a beautiful depiction of the Warwickshire Forest of Ardan by war hero George Lloyd, and a sparkling celebration overture for Huntingdonshire by the lauded writer of fun tunes, Philip Sparke.

IWO is made up of great amateur players and teachers from all over the south east and not only John and Richard have professional playing experience. We aim to offer easily understandable music that sounds best played on a wind band and Jeremy will offer an engaging introduction.
