About this Event
Get ready to grow your own mushrooms on cherry, oak, hickory, and poplar! Join our certified mushroom experts Sweet Dee and Jesse of Resting Point Farms at our mushroom log workshop at Fifth Season Gardening in Asheville from 2:00 pm - 3:30pm. Get your hands dirty and learn the art of cultivating delicious mushrooms right at home!
During the workshop you will:
- use power drills
- inoculate with plug spawn
- wax logs to protect mycelium
- receive customized guidance for placement
Everyone will take home take home one 3' inoculated mushroom log, illustrated mushroom growing guide, and a smile on their face.
The workshop concludes with a discussion about how to care for your log once you get home. Class fee includes professional instruction + materials (sustainably, locally harvested log bolts, gourmet mushroom spawn, food-grade wax, tools). Limited enrollment with pre-registration required.
Drills will be provided; we encourage you to bring your own power drill to speed up the group and practice gaining confidence with your own power tools. We will provide custom drill bits.
Bring reference photos of locations you hope to install your mushroom log. Ideal locations are shady, moist, and close enough to your daily natural walking paths so you don't miss a flush of mushrooms! Our customized guidance will bolster successful harvests for years.
