Mushroom Foraging 101
Come join us for a fun and educational day of learning about mushrooms! Expect to learn about fungal ecology, how to describe and identify mushrooms, where you can and can't forage, and some local beginner-friendly edible mushrooms. We’ll go for a walk in the forest and see which species we can find and identify, then we'll wrap up with some tips on safe, ethical, and legal foraging and leave you with all the resources you need to continue your mushroom journey. This workshop will be accessible to all levels. The most important thing you need is an interest to learn!
We'll meet at 1pm, Monday Oct 13th at the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve Park Gate (search on Google Maps for the exact location). There is free parking by the gate. Bring warm and weather-appropriate clothing and footwear for being comfortable outdoors for a while. Water and snacks encouraged. Cameras, notebooks, guidebooks, and anything you may want to use to remember the things you've learned are encouraged.
This tour is by donation with a sliding scale. I would kindly suggest a recommended donation of $25 per person, $15 for those in financial need, or $40 for those who love the tour and want to contribute extra support. These donations help cover the time it takes to prepare material, organize, and host these workshops. If you truly cannot afford to give anything at this time, you are still welcome to attend. I enjoy sharing this topic with others and no one will be turned away. If you do plan on donating, cash is easiest but you can also send an e-transfer to [email protected] (autodeposit enabled).
There is free parking by the gate or just down the road from it but these lots sometimes fill up. Allow enough time to find parking a little further.
