"The Stained Glass Windows at Clayborn Temple" with Lonnie Robinson, artist
Lonnie Robinson is an artist, graphic designer and art director. His works as an artist includes portraiture, abstracts and multimedia. Utilizing various mediums, he is influenced by impressionist Van Gogh and Mary Cassatt. Modern realist such as Charles White, John Biggers and Elizabeth Catlett. Also inspired by works by Jean Michel Basquiat abstract expressionist Robert Motherwell.
Robinson has shown in exhibitions throughout the Midsouth, Midwest and the West coast. His art has been acquired by a number of collectors institutions and organizations. His art has also displayed in cultural landmarks including the American Jazz Museum in Kansas City, KS, the National Civil Rights Museum, Smith Robertson Museum in Jackson, MS, Hattilloo Theatre in Memphis, TN.
Born in Memphis, TN, Robinson’s Lonnie’s talent was revealed at a very early age, and he won several regional and national art awards as a teen. He attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago on a full scholarship. While in Chicago, his design acumen gained him a position as an art director with Ogilvy and Mather Worldwide. He continued his art and graphic design career in Chicago, IL, Kansas City, MO, Los Angeles, CA and currently Memphis, TN.
As an design consultant, Robinson continues to work on a number of creative projects including the branding of the MLK50 Campaign for both the National Civil Rights Museum in partnership with the City of Memphis. Lonnie’s latest works include the new stained glass windows for the Historic Clayborn Temple currently under renovation. The designs tell the story of the 1968 Sanitation Strike. He’s also one of 18 artists included in the Dixon Gallery and Garden’s “Memphis 2024” on exhibition thru June 30th.
Wednesdays can be especially busy at Park and Cherry. If you're attending Munch and Learn, please plan ahead and place your lunch orders early. To reduce disruptions during the lecture, guests are asked to bring their own food from the cafe to the auditorium. You may request to-go containers to make the trip to your seat easier.
