About this Event
This continuing education event teaches participants theories and skills to develop a multicultural framework for Play Therapy practice. Participants will learn Cultural Humility and other practice skills to be culturally responsive to families from backgrounds that differ from the Play Therapist. Training will include discussion of supremacy within mental health care practice and strategies for identifying and dismantling systemic racism and bias.
Training will be live and in-person only.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of today’s presentations participants will be able to explain within a large group discussion setting the following:
1. Analyze the role and expectations of play in several cultures from around the world and the country
2. Discuss strategies for assessing how the intersectionality of a child’s identity and background may impact play therapy treatment
3. Describe cultural humility practices and how they relate to working with families in Play Therapy
4. List strategies for communicating with parents that may be unfamiliar with Westernized medical practices, psychotherapy, and Play Therapy
5. Practice identifying and confronting white supremacy culture embedded in therapy practice settings and organizational policies
6. Assess when a therapist may need to seek out specialized training to meet the therapeutic needs of specialized populations

Participation
A Time for Play Therapy Continuing Education events are professional trainings developed for master's level mental health clinicians and students. Prior Play Therapy knowledge and experience are helpful but not necessary to participate. Play Therapy credit available to mental health professionals and graduate students in a mental health program.
Handouts
Each registration for an A Time for Play Continuing Education includes limited time access to a Google Drive folders with handouts specific to the training. It also includes a folder of suggested readings of articles, book excerpts, and research that are specifically relevant to the Play Therapy training topic. Please make sure you are able to access and download the materials.
Virtual Attendance
Per APT guidelines, virtually attendees must keep your cameras on and be present and focused throughout the entire presentation. This guideline is especially important because there are several interactive activities and breakout discussions that require group participation.
Post-Test and Evaluation
Participants will be given a post-test and an anonymous evaluation to complete at the end of each training. Participants must attest to completing the evaluation and must meet a minimum score of 80% to receive Continuing Education credit.

Cancellation and refund policy
Registration refunds will NOT be made to parties who register but do not attend or do not request a refund from the organizer 24 hours in advance.

Cancellation Policy
A Time for Play reserves the right to cancel any of these training in the event of unforeseen circumstances. If such a cancellation occurs, A Time for Play will attempt to notify registrants and refund all registration fees.

This Continuing Education event is acceptable for the purposes of license renewal for Social Workers, Licensed Professional Counselors, and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists in the state of Texas by fully complying with Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council guidelines and Texas Administrative Code RULE §781.501, RULE §681.142, & RULE §801.261
The Association for Play Therapy sets the credentialing standards for Play Therapists and approves applications for the Registered Play Therapist Credential.
