About this Event
Multi-Mother
The Veil Theater holds no auditions, posts no casting sheets, prints no playbills. The theater is a hole. When the sun has set and the candles have been lit, this is a place where the dead play on stage the scenes they performed in life. It is a phantasmagoria of memory.
From the artist, Abigail Lowe:
I’m so excited (and nervous!) to share this new work. I’ve created a 15-minute(ish) puppet show that I’ll be performing six times over the course of the evening for small groups.
I’m hosting the event at hear.say brewing with the hope that folks will come early or stay after their scheduled showtime to mingle, have a drink, and chat. I’m trying a lot of new things here—new materials, new processes, and performing for the first time—so I’d really love for this to be an opportunity for feedback and conversation. The plan is to perform, then rejoin the group between each showing to hang out and talk.
There are a limited number of booking slots for the performances themselves, but if this event fills up, I’m planning to stage the piece again (hopefully several times) over the summer. I originally imagined this work happening outdoors, and I’m excited to explore that once the weather warms up.
The piece is spooky, melodramatic, and—like much of my work—obsessed with the weird magic of moms, memory, and theater.
Feel free to reach out to me directly at [email protected] with any questions!
NB: Children are welcome, but this work isn’t specifically intended for young audiences. Parents should use their discretion.
