Muir of Dinnet NNR Bioblitz!**We are holding a Bioblitz event on Friday 9th May! We have a whole host of events. Various walks and drop in sessions are scheduled for the day. We are running this bioblitz in conjunction with our twinned nature reserve in northern France; https://www.cen-hautsdefrance.org/rnn-les-landes-de-versigny - who will be running one on the same day. We were twinned in part because of the huge similarities in our habitats and management strategies on our reserves.

Booking is essential on all events as places are limited (other than nature engagement activities).
• 0900 – 1100 Spring Bird Walk
Join NatureScot staff on a morning bird walk. Looking for and identifying a range of different species. Meeting at the Burn O’ Vat Visitor Centre, AB34 5NB. The walk will be c4km in length, so stout footwear and outdoor clothing is essential.
• 1000 – 1500 – Nature Engagement Activities
Join Cairngorms National Park Rangers at the Burn O’ Vat Visitor Centre to learn more about different wildlife. See what wildlife you can spot around the visitor centre! No booking required for this one, just turn up between 1000 and 1500.
• 1000 - 1100 - Moth Morning
Join Aberdeenshire council ranger and local moth expert Helen Rowe to identify and admire various moth species that have been caught overnight. Event will be held at the Burn O’ Vat visitor centre. Booking is essential.
• 1100 – 1200 – Moth Morning continued (drop in session)
Book to join at 1000 to join in the moth trap opening, identification and introduction to moths or drop in at 1100 to view the catch before we release them afterwards.
• 1100 – 1230 Small Mammal Camera Trapping workshop
Join Aileen Salway from NESBReC to learn more about how to detect mammals and capture them on a camera trap. While also looking at images of what has been detected on the Reserve recently. Meeting at the Burn O’ Vat Visitor Centre, AB34 5NB.
• 1200 - 1400 Lichen Walk
Join local lichen expert Petra Vergunst on a walk, looking at and learning how to identify different species of Lichen. This walk will meet at Old Kinord (around 2km/25mins along yellow trail from Burn O’ Vat visitor centre) The walk will be c4km in length, so stout footwear and outdoor clothing is essential.
• 1300 - 1500 Plant Walk
Join botanist Gus Routledge and Loch Leven Nature Reserve Manager Jeremy Squire on a walk looking at and identifying different species of plants. The walk will be around 4km in length, and will finish at New Kinord (3km from Burn O’ Vat). The walk will be a few kilometres in length, so stout footwear, refreshments and outdoor clothing is essential.
• 1400 – 1530 Bumblebee Walk
Join Bumblebee Conservation Officer Annie Ives on a walk on the Reserve, looking at and identifying various different bumblebee species. Meeting at the Burn O’ Vat Visitor Centre.
• 1500 - 1700 Fungi Walk
Join local fungi expert Toni Watt on a walk looking for summer Fungi. Meeting at the Burn O’ Vat Visitor Centre, AB34 5NB. The walk will be a few kilometres in length, so stout footwear, refreshments and outdoor clothing is essential.
• 2100 - 2230 Batwatch
Join Aileen Salway from the NE Scotland Bat Group on a batwatch around Burn O’ Vat Visitor Centre, where we have a colony of soprano pipistrelles. Meeting at 9pm,please wear warm clothing and bring refreshments.
