Nad jätsid maha oma talu, oma koduküla ja kõik, mis neil oli, et alustada uut elu uuel maal. Need lood tundusid unenäona kuni selle päevani 1989. aastal, mil ise esimest korda Vormsit külastasin. Sestsaadik olen käinud Vormsil peaaegu igal aastal ning praegu on mu perel tilluke suvila kõigest mõne sammu kaugusel majast, kus sündis mu isa.
Sel pärastlõunal jagan näitusel oma perekonna lugusid sellest, kuidas okupatsiooniaastatel hoiti alal mälestusi Eestist, ning jutustan oma juurte juurde tagasipöördumise rõõmust.
Elisabeth Hedfors on pärit Vormsilt Kersleti külast. Ta on õpetaja ning sage eestirootsi kultuuri tutvustaja Rootsis.

Mu isamaa - Returning to Vormsi
Ever since my childhood I have heard stories about life 'back home on Vormsi'. During the Second World War my father came to Sweden as a refugee, along with his whole family. They left their farm, their village and all their belongings behind to start a new life in a new country. These stories seemed like a dream until one day in 1989 when I went to Vormsi for the first time. Since then I have visited Vormsi almost every summer, and my family now has a small summerhouse just a few steps from where my father was born.
This afternoon we will be at the exhibition, sharing family stories of how the memory of life in Estonia was kept alive during the occupation years, as well as talking about the joy of returning to my roots.
