About this Event
Mr. Mopps' is proud to welcome artist Balint Zsako to the store for a special storytime and art activity. Kids will paint a watercolor sky and while the paint dries we'll listen to Balint read the story of Bunny & Tree. How do you tell a story without using a single word? This was the challenge artist Balint Zsako set for himself when creating Bunny & Tree—a gorgeous, sweeping tale of adventure, transformation, and friendship that is nearly 200 pages long… and entirely wordless!
Described as a “visual tour de force” by Publishers Weekly, “mesmerizing” by Kirkus, and “endearing and uplifting” by the Wall Street Journal, Bunny & Tree was named one of the six most promising debuts of the season by Publishers Weekly.
Balint Zsako (Bunny & Tree, Enchanted Lion Books) was born in Budapest, Hungary to a textile artist mother and a sculptor father. His family immigrated to Canada when he was ten years old. At university, he studied photography, but for the last 20 years, he has been exhibiting paintings and collages. Bunny & Tree, his first book, was selected by Publishers Weekly as one of the season’s six most promising children’s debuts, naming Balint a Spring 2023 Flying Start. His drawings were featured in Take This Waltz, a film by Sarah Polley, and his illustrations have appeared in the New Yorker, Harper’s, and the New York Times Magazine. He lives in Los Angeles with his family.
