Sew Much Fun: Moving On with Your Sewing Machine.
So… you know how to thread your machine and sew a straight line - brilliant! Now let’s see what else that sewing machine of yours can do.
This session is all about having a play and building confidence. We’ll make lots of little samples to take home while trying out things you might have been avoiding (or meaning to try for ages!), like inserting a zip, sewing buttonholes, and experimenting with different seam finishes.
We’ll take a wander through the stitches on your machine — what they’re actually for, which ones are worth using, and which fabrics they behave best on. And those extra presser feet that came with your machine? No more mystery - we’ll give them a go and see how they can make sewing easier (and more fun!).
We’ll also have a bit of creative time using twin and wing needles to add lovely decorative effects with hardly any effort at all.
This is a relaxed, hands-on session with plenty of experimenting, questions, and “ohh, that’s what that does!” moments. It’s all about getting comfortable with your machine, trying new things, and leaving feeling excited to get sewing again.
Skill level : Basic sewing machine skills required.
What to bring:
- 30cm of Calico
- 1 x 6” dress/skirt zip
Janome sewing machines will be provided on the day along with a hot drink. You will also receive a 10% discount card to use in-store.

I have been involved with sewing and dressmaking for all of my working life and nothing gives me greater pleasure than passing on my knowledge to people who want to learn to sew. I enjoy sewing, dressmaking, all types of craft and especially machine embroidery.
I have been working at the abakhan store in Shrewsbury since it opened its doors in 2018.
