4thU Artivists will be holding a public screening of “Pray the Devil Back to Hell” and featuring a Q&A afterwards with the film's director, Gini Reticker. This documentary film tells the remarkable true story of the Liberian women who came together to pray, protest, and bring about a peaceful end to the bloody civil war in their country. Critically acclaimed, “Pray the Devil Back to Hell” won the Alliance of Women Film Journalists’ EDA Female Focus Award (2008); the Cinema for Peace Awards’ Cinema for Peace Award for Justice (2009); and the Tribeca Film Festival’s Jury Award for Best Documentary Feature (2008.)
Net proceeds from this event will support the work of our beneficiary: The Audrey Lorde Project. The ALP is a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Trans and Gender Non Conforming People of Color center for community organizing, focusing on the New York City area. Through mobilization, education and capacity-building, we work for community wellness and progressive social and economic justice. Committed to struggling across differences, we seek to responsibly reflect, represent and serve our various communities.
