About this Event
Film Screening: Film Screening & Talking Circle: "The Longest Walk 1978"
Date: Thursday 21st, November 2024
Time: 6pm-8pm
Join us for an immersive evening as we screen the powerful documentary *The Longest Walk 1978*, capturing the historic cross-country journey from San Francisco to Washington, D.C. This landmark protest united Indigenous activists, allies, and community members to stand against the forced relocation of Native communities and demand justice, sovereignty, and rights. Chronicling the voices and resilience of the American Indian Movement (AIM) and its supporters, this film offers an unfiltered look at one of the most pivotal movements in Native American history.
Event Highlights:
Film Screening – Witness the historic march that brought nationwide attention to issues impacting Native lands and Native communities
Talking Circle– Following the film, we invite you to participate in a talking circle to share reflections, discuss the legacy of AIM, and consider the ongoing struggles for Indigenous rights.
Whether you're familiar with AIM’s legacy or just beginning to learn, this event is a unique opportunity to connect with community, share stories, and honor the journey for justice that continues to this day.
- UIC will be providing snacks and light refreshments. You are all welcome to bring own food and snacks or snacks to share with everyone. We have a microwave if you would like to bring food that needs to be heated.
