We’re rolling out the big screen for a cozy night of film, snacks, and swing history! Before we hit play, we’ll share a few words about why this movie matters to the roots of Lindy Hop - then it’s time to enjoy the show.About the film:
Stormy Weather is a classic 1943 Hollywood musical featuring an African American cast, starring Lena Horne, Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, and Cab Calloway. It’s packed with legendary performances - including the electrifying Nicholas Brothers routine - plus appearances by Fats Waller, Katherine Dunham & her dancers, and Dooley Wilson.
“Stormy Weather” is a primary showcase of some of the leading African American performers of the day, during an era when African American actors and singers rarely appeared in lead roles in mainstream Hollywood productions. It's a joyful snapshot of artistry that helped shape the music and dance we love.
This event is free and open for everyone: dancers, friends and anyone curious. So just show up on the day and enjoy!
