The movie is based on the book. The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, first published in 1911.
This classic children's novel is about an orphaned, disagreeable girl named Mary Lennox who is sent to live at her uncle's gloomy manor in England, where she discovers a hidden, locked garden and, with the help of new friends, brings it back to life, transforming herself and her sickly cousin in the process.
