This short course will focus on movement-based improvisation but does also weave in some theater, voice, writing and visual art.It's safe and welcoming for beginners but still interesting/challenging enough for experienced improvisers.
Movement improvisation is a wonderful basis for all other forms of improvisation. Well before we had language we had movement; there is so much that can be expressed without words. Instead of the games that are used in theater improv, we work mostly with “scores”, or a kind of blueprint to what will happen in a space of time. A kind of a structure. We will do exercises that originate from Viewpoints, physical theater, and other forms of improvisation (including a bit of Contact Improv at times), and moving in/with/through the space, non verbal contact and how we can communicate through our bodies.
Anyone can participate, you don’t need any experience in movement or theater nor complete fluency in English. This workshop is without shoes: bring non-slippery socks (barefoot is also ok but the floor can be cold sometimes), clothes you can move freely in (layers are good), and a notebook if you like. There is water and tea available at the studio (and usually chocolate or cookies).
Suzan Lemont is a dance theatre maker, expressive arts therapist and educator. She has been practising and teaching movement improvisation, in one form or another for 40 years.

Where and when
Mondays: 31 March, 7, 14, 21, 28 April, 12 May. Mind that 21st of April is 2nd Easter Day. We do have a lesson that evening. We might add a lesson on the 5th of May if enough people can make it.
Lessons 20:00-22:00h. Maybe a little longer if we're having fun.
Bring non-slippery socks. clothes you van move freely in, a water bottle.
