Rock Skills Intermediate: This two day course builds on your previous experience and aims to develop your rock climbing skills by introducing you to traditional protection, rope systems for constructing belays and moving well on rock.The course will cover:
Choosing a suitable venue- what information do we need and where can we find it from guidebooks, online and organisations.
Movement Skills- Warming up and injury avoidance, developing your movement skills for movement on real rock.
Equipment- What and where do we get safe climbing equipment from. HOw do we inspect our kit, and an introduction to climbing protection.
Technical Skills- Building anchors, selecting runners, ropework, belaying, holding falls, lowering, seconding a route and personal abseiling.
Environmental Knowledge- How can we responsibly and sustainably access our climbing areas, climbing ethics and environmental considerations.
Hazards and Emergency Procedures- What to do if something goes wrong and how to avoid common problems.
By the end of the course you should have enjoyed two days of learning through lots of active technical practice and climbing and be in a strong position to second a lead climber on natural rock and participate safely in a climbing session.
Pre-Requistes:
- Completion of a Rock Skills Introduction course.
OR,
- Have logged 10 routes on an indoor wall or at outdoor crags; and
- Have logged 10 belays of a fellow climber.
