This October, Billabong Sanctuary will taking part in the annual fundraising campaign run by the Australasian Society of Zoo Keeping (ASZK).Each year, zoos, aquariums, and wildlife parks across Australia and New Zealand take part in raising awareness and funds for threatened species. Over the years, the campaign has raised more than $100,000 to help protect species like the Greater Bilby, Asian Rhino, Southern Cassowary, Philippine Crocodile, and the African Painted Dog
In 2025, funds raised will support the critically endangered Mountain Bongo, one of the rarest large mammals in the world, with fewer than 100 left in the wild.
Proceeds will go directly to the Bongo Surveillance Project in Kenya, helping to pay for local trackers, field equipment, school-based education programs, and community projects that reduce pressure on Bongo habitat.
