About this Event
Cavity nesting birds, like the striking Mountain Bluebird, often take easily to human-made bird boxes. These boxes have many specific features, from entrance hole size and box area to special features like predator guards and the ability to open for cleaning. Register to pick up a pre-fabricated kit at the Swaner EcoCenter to build one of these boxes. All you will need is a hammer and screwdriver or drill! A fun DIY project to expand habitat in your yard and learn about the installation and maintenance of your box. Over 60 boxes of similar designs are installed across the Swaner Preserve.
Registrants will construct a box from pre-cut pieces in their kit and learn how and where to mount the box. Participants will need to be comfortable using a hammer and nails to put the box pieces together. Each ticket corresponds to one bird box. If you would like to make more than one box, register for more than one ticket, with a maximum of 2 boxes per person. Pickup of kits and instructions will occur on Thursday, March 23rd at the Swaner EcoCenter between 10-6 pm. If this date does not work for you, please register and then email Rhea ([email protected]) to find another time for pick-up.
We don’t want cost to be a barrier to this event, if you would like to attend the event but cost is prohibitive, please reach out to Rhea at [email protected].
