Freedom, Beauty, Truth, and Love: A Night with Electric Pink Voices & Blackpool Film Festival

Experience the power of stories through song and cinema as we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of this iconic film with a Sing-A-Long screening.

Join Blackpool Film Festival and Electric Pink Voices, Blackpool’s LGBTQ+ choir, for a unique celebration of resilience, connection, and acceptance. Together we are bringing the spirit of the Moulin Rouge (2001) to life.

For the LGBTQ+ community, storytelling has always been an act of survival. By joining voices in the communal space of film, we are together ensuring that queer stories are seen, heard, and celebrated at the heart of Blackpool’s cultural life.

Why Moulin Rouge?

The film’s pillars—Truth, Freedom, Beauty, and Love—are the same values cultivated at EPV every week:

  • Freedom: Finding liberation through voice and expression.
  • Beauty: Celebrating diversity and the power of shared sound.
  • Truth: Showing up as your honest, unapologetic self.
  • Love: Building solidarity within our chosen family.

Like the artists, rebels, and dreamers of the Moulin Rouge, EPV use music to explore equality and self-expression. Together, struggles are acknowledged while celebrating triumphs - honouring artistry as survival and love as resistance.

About the film

“The Moulin Rouge. A night club, a dance hall, and a bordello. A kingdom of night time pleasures. Where the rich and powerful come to play with the young and beautiful creatures of the underworld.”

A poet falls for a beautiful courtesan whom a jealous duke covets in this stylish musical, featuring a variety of 20th pop hits. With an all-star cast, Moulin Rouge was one of 2001’s hit films. Cleverly using popular music to accompany a tragic romance, it brings life to more traditional storytelling and introduced new audiences to big-screen musicals.
