About this Event
Looking for a new kind of volunteer opportunity? Come join us! MCTK creates a community retail volunteer experience like no other specifically for the littles!
We are absolutely thrilled that you're interested in volunteering at The Detroit Giveback Festival with Motor City Thrifty Kids
So what is MCTK Volunteer Program?
Well YOU, my friend, are what make The MCTK Volunteer Program so special. The Volunteers serve as our team! We are looking for moms, dads, aunts, uncles and anyone who plays a big role in a childs life that wants to help serve a mission with Detroit's first kids thrift store.
You help us execute this large scale experience on the day of the event.
In return, we provide you access to FREE thrifted clothes for that special child in your life on the day of the swap outside of your shift, a FREE meal during your break, access to a growing network, and supporting this sustainable community through service.
Okay, cool, so what is Motor City Thrifty Kids?
Motor City Thrifty Kids (MCTK) is Detroit’s first kids-focused thrift and upcycling brand dedicated to making sustainable, affordable children’s fashion accessible to every family in the city. We specialize in all children's thrifted items from newborn to teen.
We collect, restore, and resell gently used children’s clothing, shoes, toys, and gear, keeping quality items in circulation and out of landfills — while helping families save money and teaching kids the value of sustainability.
Through community-driven pop-ups, donation drives, and creative upcycling workshops, MCTK brings families together, promotes environmental responsibility, and builds pride in Detroit’s neighborhoods.
More than a thrift brand, Motor City Thrifty Kids is a movement rooted in the belief that:
Every child deserves to experience the good things in life — whether new or gently used.
💚 Recycle. Reuse. Rebuild the City.
What kind of work will I have to do?
The MCTK Giveback Festival is a one day clothing popup so the work is very retail like. We'll have a number of jobs, from sorting through donations, placing donations out on the swap "floor", to customer greeting, and different odd jobs like supporting our vendors or "Alteration Station".
All jobs will be randomly assigned by our volunteer coordinator on the day of the swap and roles can be changed throughout the day!
Please note that the number of the roles will include walking, bending, and light lifting.
If you have mobility, sensory, or any special requirements or accommodations, please note that at the bottom of your application - we're happy to accomodate you!
We are so excited to help you get your little ones fly, make friends, and save the world thorugh community with you!
